Day 97/98 - Campbell River - Seal Bay
Grateful for starting to feel like the worst of the stomach issues were over, I had a slow morning in the motel room. I would be meeting my parents in a few days, so we had a call to finalise arrangements before they flew out from the UK. I was slightly ahead of schedule, and conscious I was heading further south into the more populated part of the island, I spent some time planning out the final few days to Port Alberni where they would meet me. Not wanting to spend more money on crappy motels, I found a couple of campsites that I could split the remaining days between.
I eventually hit the road late morning for an easy ride down the coast. I picked up some more supplies and stopped off at Miracle Beach for a picnic lunch. I clearly wasn’t the only person to have had that idea as the beach was busy with families enjoying the final throes of summer. Pushing on, I even managed to find some quiet gravel tracks before rejoining the highway for the final stretch to the campsite. This was predominantly an RV park, stacked full with the transformers-type machines accompanied by their many toys and accessories. But there was also a nice tent area amongst the trees where I’d be spending a couple of nights. It felt nice to be back with the simplicity of the tent as I settled in for an early night.
Day 98 - Seal Bay
As I wasn’t moving on today I could have a leisurely breakfast and coffee. The RV park backed straight onto an area of woodland with walking trails leading down to the sea. The coastline here was rocky and rugged with piles of driftwood pushed up against the treeline and I sat for a while under the sun’s warming rays.
Back at the campsite I spent the afternoon reading by the lake. It felt good to rest and recharge after what had been a rough few days.
