Day 5 - Hope - Wickenburg

If I were doing a grand tour then I think the commentators would describe this as a transition stage - one road, dead straight. All day. An early start and net downhill meant I was done by lunchtime. Another RV park stop. A few more residents this time but the office was still closed for summer. I hadn’t really appreciated the extent to which this part of Arizona was such a seasonal location with many things only open in the winter. Turns out most people have more sense than to be out in the desert in late spring. Managed to find an online check, so at least got access to bathrooms and showers. Although a tent pitched a few metres from the highway makes for a very loud night.

I had a look around town and got a beer and then realised that the impressively preserved movie theatre was showing the new Mission Impossible that evening, so I thought I’d have an evening out the tent and go to that. The film was utterly ludicrous but it was nice to do something different. Towards the end of the film I’d begun to get slightly worried about the bike and the tent, having left it for quite a few hours but everything was intact on return. People here seem pretty respectful of other people’s stuff. After almost 20 hours in Wickenburg I felt like I’d walked every street, at least twice.
