Day 63 - Lucerne Campground - Tete Jaune Lodge
Packed up and back out onto the highway, at which point it immediately started raining again. It didn’t last too long and brightened up as I approached Mount Robson visitor centre. Mt Robson is the most prominent peak in the Rocky Mountains and the highest point in the Canadian Rockies.
I read about the early attempts at climbing the mountain and made use of the free Wi-Fi at the visitor centre. Then went across the cafe for some hot food as it was still grey and chilly. Met a couple of other cyclists in the cafe, including a British guy who was doing the full Alaska to Patagonia. Both of which were pretty interesting characters. There’s definitely a shift in the types of characters out here compared to those doing the Divide - from keen cyclists looking to do a long ride to travellers who are using the bike as a mode of transport.
Pushed on down the valley including stopping at a couple of waterfalls, a short hike from the road. The Fraser River starts just above last night’s campsite and runs down to Vancouver - so the water I saw rushing through will probably have a quicker journey there than I will.
I’d planned a relatively short day to Tete Jaune as I knew I could shower and eat at the on-site restaurant as the next stretch of road was pretty sparse. With thunderstorms forecast I opted for a small cabin which wasn’t much more than the price of camping. I felt pretty chilled as I sat by the river waiting for my laundry.
At dinner I was greeted by a rather severe Russian woman who informed me it was a buffet set up and I could eat as much as I wanted - happy days. Nice to have some proper fresh, home cooked food. After a few generous trips up to the buffet I retreated back to the cabin.
