Day 12 - Cherry Creek Campground
The few spots of rain falling as I went to bed had turned torrential by the early hours, accompanied by thunder and lightning. It was still raining as I woke up properly so I decided to wait it out in the tent for any improvement. The section of off road I’d soon be joining is famous for peanut butter mud and the ACA maps specifically advise against trying to ride through after rain. I weighed up staying here for the day or moving onto the next campsite. More rain arrived late morning so I got back in the tent and fell back to sleep - I think the body’s way of telling me to take a rest day. Even if this meant fighting against the urge to constantly move forward. Lovely campground with nice people around who have given me water, so certainly worse places to spend a zero day.
It turned into a sunny afternoon so I went for a short walk along the trail from the campsite. A really beautiful forest, so nice to take some time to appreciate the surroundings. Everything dried off so hopefully no further rain and all well to hit the trail again tomorrow.
