Day 39 - Turpin Meadow Campground - Colter Bay Village
I wasn’t late getting up but it was almost 9am by the time I left the campsite. I wasn’t in too much of a rush though as the next section was fairly flat and on pavement so would be pretty fast.
After a short section on back roads I joined the main highway which feeds the Tetons and Yellowstone from the east, so was pretty busy with campers and RVs heading into the Parks for their holidays. As I drew nearer the grandness and ruggedness of the Tetons range grew ever greater and more impressive.
Once into the National Park, I regained phone signal and had a text from Zach to say they were staying at Colter Bay Village which had first come first serve hiker/biker sites - something which my internet searches the day before hadn’t revealed. I assumed they’d already moved on but they were staying for an extra night so I decided to join them.
With the riding finished and the tent up before midday I had time for a swim in Jackson Lake (cold but refreshing) before a chilled afternoon. Zach, Kara and I got some pizza for dinner before watching the sun set behind the mountains with a beer. It was at this point that I decided I’d stay another night and take my first full day off since New Mexico.
Said goodbye to Z&K. I will hopefully see them up the road but they’ve been putting in some big days recently, just as I feel I’ve got more into the swing of slowing down. But there’s still a fair way to go before Banff.
