Day 64 - Tete Jaune Lodge - Lasalle Lakes Rec Site
From Tete Jaune I was able to get off the highway and take an adjacent dirt road. So with the sun out and no traffic, I had a great start to the morning.
After passing through Croydon, which seemed to consist of two houses and little resemblance to its namesake, I got to Dunster. Dunster was initially only accessible by rail when the train line opened in the 1910s. The original station house remains as well as a small store. Stopped for a drink and a banana and a chat with the guy running the store. Being the store manager seemed to be a community badge of honour which previous role holders going back to the 20s listed on a board outside - as if captains of the local golf club or Lord’s century makers.
From Dunster it was back on the highway up to McBride where I stopped for lunch and a supermarket resupply. The rest of the afternoon was a bit of a slog into a headwind but was rewarded with a nice (and free) lakeside campsite. I was running low on water so I walked into the woods to look for a steam which was marked on the map but to no avail. The lake water had a strange green tint to it but decided to risk it and filter from there.
I spoke to a couple of guys who were making a documentary about the impacts of climate change on various areas of BC and was pretty tired, so I just ate and then crawled into bed.
