Day 71 - Burns Lake - Houston
The ride from Burns Lake to Houston was another entirely on highway 16, so very little of note. Stopped at Grizzly Jim’s General Store for a drink and an ice cream. As I rolled into town I stopped to look at the world’s largest fly fishing rod. The creativity of these towns to try and put themselves on the map is truly impressive.
I’d booked a motel as I couldn’t face another night on the sleeping pad. Not the worst I’d stayed in but certainly on the drab, 1980s end of things. Went to the supermarket to pick up a few bits. I had to buy and eat four yogurts as Canada’s reluctance to sell single or small items is frustrating.
I ordered lasagne from the takeaway next to the motel and when I went to collect it, the weight of the bag was slightly concerning. On inspection it was a significant tray of layered pasta which could probably have fed a family of four. Despite initial concerns I managed to eat the whole thing, so there’s clearly still some appetite there.
I watched a film on YouTube of someone who’d raced the Tour Divide this year - pretty cool to see lots of the places I’d been through and some of the people I’d seen.
