Day 35 - Diagnus Well - Lander Cutoff Road
Really strong winds overnight made sleeping hard for a few hours but thankfully the rain and lightning passed at a safe distance.
Back on the trail for the final 20 miles into Atlantic City, although ‘City’ is doing a lot of heavy lifting. It’s the sort of place that doesn’t look like it’s changed since the gold mining industry collapsed in the 1880s, except for the erection of multiple Trump flags. Colorado is pretty mixed politically but Wyoming is definitely the Trump heartlands. Will keep my head down. The two restaurants in town were closed but a small conscience store was open for a burrito and drink.
A nagging headwind and the constantly rolling hills made for pretty slow going for the rest of the day. I’ve arranged a stop in Pinedale so chugged on knowing that everything done today wouldn’t need to be done tomorrow. Pulled into an informal camp spot marked on the map, where there was already an RV with a guy sitting outside. I asked if he minded if I camped there and he said he’d have to ask the rest of the group, which seemed like an odd reaction. I took the hint and moved on and was probably saved having to listen to the sound of their generator all night.
Found another spot down the road, a bit open so hopefully not the winds of last night.
