Day 54 - Tuchuck Campground - Eureka

I had breakfast and packed up and then finished the pass which I’d started climbing the evening before. From the top of the pass there was a long downhill on good roads which meant I was approaching Eureka much earlier than expected. However, as I approached town I met a German couple who mentioned the weather warning. I hadn’t had phone signal for 24 hours so I checked the weather and there was a severe warning for wind and rain for the afternoon and evening.

Got into town before midday so went to a restaurant to get some food and reassess plans. There were a couple of motels on the edge of town but I didn’t really need a motel stay and it being early afternoon and still bright and sunny it was tempting to ride on across the border into Canada. But in the end opted to play it safe and check into a motel. As the wind and torrential rain arrived early evening I was pretty glad not to be in the tent. A free afternoon also gave me the chance to chat to parents and catch up on some other bits whilst on Wi-Fi. This motel room also had a stove top, so I was able to get some pasta from the supermarket and make my own dinner rather than eating at some of the iffy looking restaurants nearby.
