Day 73 - Smithers - Hazelton
Packed up and then rode down into town with Sarah before saying goodbyes and dropping into the supermarket. It was lovely to stay with them after a tough few days feeling pretty ropy (and I’m not just saying that as Sarah has asked to read this!)
Climbed up away from town onto a dirt road and was treated to amazing views of the glacier on Hudson Bay Mountain. A really nice quiet road and a welcome relief from the days on the highway.
Down towards Witset and crossed a gorge with thousands of salmon swimming upstream in the water below, which was amazing to see. Stopped at the gas station for a drink and got another sudden wave of nausea. As I sat outside a local teenager came and gave me a Kinder egg. Slightly surreal but I ate the chocolate and kept the toy.
From there it was back on the Highway up to the campsite in Hazelton. A really nice setting on the river below dramatic rocky peaks. Went for a paddle in the river and made some dinner. Still not feeling 100% normal but getting better every day. (Narrator: he was not getting better!)
